Before I came along my husband and his parents never ate together or even knew how to spend time together. We do now and I now realized I made a mistake. I spent time and bought my in-laws some great gifts and I get criticize for spending too much so they decide not to use it. I get them something small & I get yelled at for not doing enough or not considering them. No matter what I do, they are never happy. They want money and good reputation- I gave them that: graduated from Columbia, got my doctoral degree in health economics. But that's not enough- when she speaks to others about me- i'm trash, i don't know anything and not a good daughter-in-law. What is that all about??!! I'm the one with the education, the one making the money and I'm being put down by my mother-in-law the more we're together. If i stay home i'm criticized for being "lazy" and if i'm away i'm a prostitute and not the ideal house wife. She has some parania and is set in her ways but this is getting out of hand- i don't want to associate with her anymore. But then they are my husband's parents and i don't want to hurt his feelings. Not sure what to do!!! Then their is the sister-in-law who decides to butt in and give me a share of her opinions- she's just like her mother!!! I can't stand this family- they hate me for not being a house mom and hate me for being so successful in my career I feel! I can't win.
